Propane Sample Roaster

Postby davidcox1 » Sun Mar 21, 2010 2:27 pm

We bought a sample roaster made by USRoaster Corp and the model we have uses propane as the fuel (we use natural gas for our large batch roaster). I plan to contact USRoaster Corp about this, but I cannot seem to control the flame properly. The pressure gauge fluctuates wildly if the flame is set beyond anything but a minimal level for roasting. I would appreciate any thoughts on the cause (short of user error).

Yeah, it is not wise to use natural gas on a roaster outfitted for propane. Get yourself a tank or a conversion kit from US Roasters.

I use propane exclusively on the propane roaster.

If the burners are sized correctly and you are using the correct fuel. Than if the gauge is windshield wiping and installed in the correct location it is the orifice of the gas regulator is to large.

As we make the roaster and I cannot remember anyone calling about it, we can help you get it straight,

Our USRC sample Roaster requires a regulator for Propane set normally to about 6-7" of water column to allow the needle not to swing, this is the incoming gas pressure.
If you do not have a regulator on the incoming gas that is adjustable you may not be able to get within the range with the combination valve’s adjustment and the pressure set so the needle will not swing, it’s the incoming is the one that needs adjusted.
We ship the roaster with a small regulator to take care of this these days as we have found that many people just want to hook with up with the same hose as the grill runs on! ( I have seen these put out 18”wc.) Set up correctly very little if any bounce is noticed. Just like a big roaster they need the correct pressure.

You just have to know how it works,, it has to be set up correctly or someone might tell ya it was set up wrong by the factory. :D I had a customer so mad at one time we wanted them to just send it back so we could find the crazy problem!! All it was is they got some help to make an adjustment on the controller..( they set up a PID loop so tight it was turning the burner on and off every few seconds!) Never seem one so wacked! Replaced the controller and all was like new again. Then the roaster that just hooked up to the tank without a regulator on the large commercial tank! This was providing over 20 PSI not the 7 " wc the machine was tagged for! This broke the gauge!

Give us a call, we will be glad to give you some pointers.
I'm sure our great roaster techs can help you if you have not figured it out.
Ps; would have posted this a couple months ago when I saw the post but it took a couple of tries to get on the new Guild site and get my pass word updated!

PM me with your email address and the serial number or what name it was ordered under and will see what I can find out about it.
